GIANT Lift - the best choice to build cooling towers

The Böcker GIANT Lift is the best choice for challenging projects.  According to the company, the king-size hoist has particularly proven these strengths on a construction site in Duisburg Walsum, Germany. There, the GIANT Lift has been used to build a cooling tower of a brand new energy plant. Adapting of the mast system to the curve of the tower had been the most challenging task for Böcker.

The whole project started with an inclination of +17 degrees at the base enclosure. In the following months, the GIANT Lift little by little grew with the cooling tower. Therefore the mast system had to be consequently adapted to the respective inclination. In the end, the hoist reached on overall lifting height of about 183 meters having an inclination of -3 degrees at the top end.

Furthermore other custom-made solutions had to be implemented for a successful operation of the GIANT Lift. An extendible footbridge has been tailor-made for the risk-free crossing to the jacking formwork. Furthermore a new radio-remote control had been designed by Böcker only for the project in Walsum. Workers should have had the possibility to call the hoist from the top-end at any time. A trolley which had been connected to the jacking formwork ensured accurate positioning of the drive unit to the very last millimetre. The strong drive unit allows lifting speeds of up to 60 metres per minute while the hoist is able to carry 2,200 kg or 28 passengers respectively.

During the construction period of 10 months the GIANT Lift completed approximately 16,000 rides. These equal a total distance of 1,400 km or 600 operating hours respectively.  In total there have been around 12,000 rides with minor loads, 2,500 rides with medium loads and around 1,500 rides for almost full payload. This information could be gathered from the operating-data management of the lift. Being able to generate this data helps to substantially optimize maintenance intervals as well as the replacement of wearing parts of the GIANT Lift.
